On the Monday of the first May bank holiday 12 of us decided to have an amble along the River Avon,
meeting at Saltford and heading off in the direction of the first pub.
It's a beautiful calm stretch of water, with the odd angler here and there.
We got to the pub about 2 hours later and found a table.
On queuing to order food we discovered that there was 2 hour wait, so had a drink and a packet of crisps,
and watched Tony and Sarah Scott eat their packed lunch. Abigail and I ran along the river path to the next pub to see if it was any better.
Good news - there was no wait. Bad news - we had a 20 minute journey back to the first pub.
Fortunately there was a barge just going through the lock nearby, so I asked them if we could have a lift, they were on their holidays and found the
experience of having two guests in wet suits quite amusing. When we got back the others had given up the will to live and just wanted to head home,
so we trekked back (for another 2 hours) with hunger raging. Once back we ate Chris's chocolate eclairs and went to the pub.
Motto for the future - take a packed lunch and if you don't need it feed it to the ducks.
