Guidelines for a lake session
Lake sessions are held down at the marine lake in Clevedon. The boatshed is on the promenade, between the crazy golf ticket office and the coast guard building.
As a paddler (member at a lake session) you are expected to:
- Pay £2 when using club equipment - (boat, BA, paddle, helmet, spray deck)
- Collect and put away your own equipment (if you're not sure where something should go, ask)
- Store boats in the racks with the drain bung open and pointing downwards (and emptied at the lakeside)
- Not park outside the boatshed or obstruct the coastguard building next door. If necessary you can bring a car up to the boatshed for unloading and loading, but you cannot park there. Please, unload the boat and then immediately go and park.
- Use the changing room considerately i.e. ladies only on a Lake session - gents can get changed in the equipment store.
- Share club equipment with other members. On a busy session, it may be necessary to swap around after an hour as there are limited numbers of some boat types.
On the lake
- You need to have done an introductory session or hold a 1 Star, Paddlepower Passport or equivalent qualification to paddle on the lake using club equipment unless supervised by a coach.
- If you want help with something, ask. Most of us are friendly and don't bite
- Practice rescues/capsizing with another paddler, just in case.
- Share the water with other users - watch out for fishermen and swimmers.
- Don't put your hands on the bottom of the lake (particularly when falling out), there is broken glass and other debris about.
- Wash your hands before eating as there are marine organisms present in the lake.
